60" Pylon Racers

From 2001 the BMFA Nation 60" Pylon Racing League in the UK has gone all EPP. The decision was made by the pilots within the league and I am sure it will prove to be the right one. Having flown in full blooded crunchy racing with four models together for many years people were getting so jaded by constant repairs that the future of the league was in doubt.

As well as being cheaper, more accessible and just as competitive, the new league is also fairer - we didn't all have the time to keep our crunchy racers in A1 condition whereas with foamies it's much less of an issue.

Composite 60" racers are such great planes in their own right I've included two of the best below, even though they are no longer "race legal".

Having recently been test flying the Sblits EPP racer there will be a report to follow soon. There is also an Enigma review, which, although now a little outdated, was the first of its type so it deserves a mention.

Banana

This all moulded 60" from Baudis Model is a real blast.

I've flown it on three separate occasions now, the latest outing at the Bwlch before an F3F was typical. The wind was around 30 mph and the lift was excellent. Before I gave it to Ian Mason and Mark Passingham to try, I flew it for a while and have to say I was amazed how well it handled the blustery wind unballasted. Any aerobatics you can think of are a doddle and I reckon it's one of the few 60"ers that could go below 40 seconds at F3F.

In addition to rocketing around in a straight line, the Banana is one of the best cornerers in the business. Added to that the fact that it is a beautifully balanced flyer that can float around on nothing and the brakes are really effective makes this a real top end 60"er.

Ian Mason, Mark Passingham and the other F3Fers present were all equally impressed. Move over Mini Ellipse and Shooting Star (Nemesis) your reign has ended, More here.

Eliminator SR

Designed by John Stevens (01162 720257), the Eliminator is simply the best quality kit you will ever buy. The wings are RG15 with the carbon LE already shaped. The glass fuselage is perfect, period. It is incredibly strong, well designed, roomy inside, small outside and has a superb white gelcoat finish. In the air the plane performs with the best and achieves the delicate balance between speed and turning. Go and buy one, NOW! eliminator.jpg (20456 bytes)

Revenge

The Revenge has evolved over several years. The basic concept was, I think, Cito tip panels on a John Phillips fuselage. Current versions are RG15, use pressed glass wings and go very well. After several resurrections my Eliminator has finally expired giving me the inspiration to crack on with the Revenge I've had lying around for ages. If you want one drop me a line and I'll put you in touch. Prices vary according to what specs but you can expect extremely value for money. My own personal Revenge is a very nice shade of vomit. Flys like a dream.
