In the last week I received,
fitted out and tested the new Skorpion F3B - not a bad effort combined with 60 hours at
the day job. Anyhoo, what's new about this Skorpion? New wing mould with flat
tips and top notch surface finish. All-round lighter lay-up - especially at the
extremities, which is a very good thing. No servo boxes in the wing (another a good
thing). Snazzy pre-soldered to the right length snakes instead of pushrods. Lots of
other small touches, like really free hinges, a first time fitting joiner etc.
This is the third Skorpion I've
had and it's the best quality by far - great to see progress like that. The lay up
on the F3B version is very light. The wing and tail are the main beneficiaries of
the diet treatment. A fellow Skorpion owner picked it up for the first launch and
was completely gob smacked at how light it was.
In the air things got very
interesting - losing the extra weight at the extremities is a very good thing. This
plane has the raw speed I'm used to but a certain pilot connection, sure-footedness, grip,
which seems a step up. We'll see, time will tell.
And yes, during set-up and
flying, so far the Sanwa 762 on the elevators and flaps are very fast and precise. Again,
time will tell. In the mean time, if you want to give them a try and can't get them
near you, try Kin, he delivers world-wide.
