La Muela 2002

Slow shutter or fast plane - you figure it out!

For those who don't yet know, La Muela ('the Molar' - because of its shape) is around 90km NE of Madrid, Spain.

Each year at Easter many F3F pilots from around the globe descend on the hill for their annual Open International. In 2002 there were 61 entries from Spain, Portugal, England, Wales, America, France, Slovakia and Norway.

The event attracts some of the best pilots around who enjoy the great lift when the wind blows and the great fun to be had when it doesn't.

Alas, 2002 was to be a year when the wind didn't show but that didn't stop the fun. In fact I would say that socially this was the best of the four times I have visited the La Muela.

So much fun was had a full write-up may follow but for now you'll have to make do with a few photos.

Happy Chappy

Espen Torp enjoying a little DHLG.

Ah ha, I have a plan...

Sc00p scheming - there was never a dull moment.

TwinStars, alarm clocks, bedroom furniture, model boxes, stickers, video antics and various other sources of amusement brought smiles all-round.

Pink and proud

Bob Bingham's most excellently visible Wizard Compact II.

Got me a room for the night.

During a combat session I tipped Alex out of the sky and down the hill. After a few minutes of looking Alex found that his foamie had disappeared down one of the caves that burrow into the hill.

Coming your way

The Wizard Compact II of Espen Torp used a one-piece tail.

On a Christmas list near you?

The Corracho, made in Germany and flown by one of the French team. I think we'll be hearing more of this model...

Flick flack, paddy whack.

Plenty of Acacias to be seen.

Far too good to be a kit.

Alex McMeekin's own design 'indoor' model made several appearances - went well.

Euro trannys suck for this game.

Bob Bingham sets Espen's DHLG free.

Nice catch Bob

Go on my son, get up there...

Happy Robert

Rudolf Masny

Rudolf Masny from Slovakia - great pilot, great guy but if he offers you a drink be prepared for an experience you won't forget...

So cool he should be snowboarding

Pierre Rondel looking chic as ever.

Buy me a beer and I'll tell you all about it.

There is such a good story behind this photo it's reason enough to do a full write up just to share it...
